Call out to Volunteers

The Board of Directors for CIABA
would like to invite  those CIABA members who would like to serve as Regional Coordinators for CIABA.
This office would require working alongside CIABA to identify  local needs and developments in the industry so we can be more closley connected and to mobilize support and help for our fellow famers.
At this point a once time per month tele-conference meeting with a Board Member would be suggested.

We also would like to ask if anyone would like to serve as CIABA's Historian.

If you are interested please contact us.
Thank you very much
Sincerely,
CIABA

The CIABA Unskirted Fiber Event Criteria for Use in an AOBA Venue

In February of 2011 CIABA adopted the International Alpaca Odyssey rules for the Cottage Industry in evaluation of fleece with some slight variations.
When CIABA holds an event outside of an AOBA venue, we will adhere to these Cottage Industry criteria.
Progress
In early March of 2011, AOBA agreed to allow CIABA to hold the Unskirted
Fleece Event at the Green Mountain Fall Spectacular, as a vendor. We can not thank the organizers of the Green Mountain Show enough.  In a true sprit of cooperation CIABA  has agreed we will not give out  scores for the Unskirted Fleece Event.  The evaluations will be given in verbiage, (descriptive words).  This will comply with AOBA's requirement that we not use numbers in order to insure that entrants do not confuse the CIABA fleece show criteria and evaluation system with  the AOBA fleece show criteria and evaluation system.
CIABA was happy to comply with AOBA because we truly believe that with the entire industry working together true progress will take place.
This unprecedented event was evaluated by Wini Labreque of Starweaver Farms and Fiber Innovations and Robyn Kuhl, Co-owner of the Coarse Broads/Certified Sorting System(c). Both evaluators are highly respected in the alpaca industry.

If you are interested in holding an CIABA Unskirted Fiber Event in your State, there is now a protocol for the event. It is available by contacting us founders@ciaba.org
Complete Details for this event are posted.

     Exciting Developments

CIABA recently donated the first CIABA certified Alpaca Discovery Learning Kit(c) to the Department of Agriculture in NH.
The Kit was well received, and they are looking forward to offering its powerful teaching aids into the school curriculum in the State of New Hampshire. There is also a kit  presently being demonstrated to teachers and students in the New York area.

Local Attractions and Enterprise

Our society is becoming more and more aware of the importance for promotion of local endeavors. Many towns across the nation support farmers markets, buy local, eat local,  and local growers. Well that is us!

Through the use and development of this and future kits,  it will expose more people to alpacas and their innate purpose: producing useable and beautiful natural fiber. We have included activities in the kit that use the very best of both Suri and Huacaya fiber. Fiber purchased for the kit is graded by a nationally recognized system and its value is based on world market pricing. CIABA is the first organization to pay World Market Price for fiber. If you are a paid member of CIABA you too may learn what the World Market Pricing is for alpaca and other fiber by requesting a password and logging in to the
members area.

CIABA will be offering an introductory rate on purchasing this kit!
See the actual kit and you will see why we are so excited!

This picture to the left might as well say, beautiful, versatile, natural alpaca fiber. Locally grown! CIABA is encouraging you to reach out to your local friends and neighbors, by using the Alpaca Discovery Learning Kit. How can this benefit you personally? What does all of this mean for you personally,  if you don't have children and are not a teacher?

Through the development of this educational tool CIABA has brought national education about alpacas to a local and personal level. We are offering the opportunity to sponsor a kit for a specific school or program of your choice.
